Hi ladies, I will try to make this brief as possible. My symptoms started at age 40. They weren't extreme, just periods going a bit strange where they had previously been like clockwork. Anyway 7 ys on now and I haven't had a period for 12 months now - yay! The downside for me is that I feel incredible alone! My female friends who are not yet menopausal are incredibly unsupportive and think its all in my head. Sometimes I think they may be right. Does anyone else experience anything similar? Do you ever think you're going insane? I find myself feeling ashamed and embarrassed about my increased anxiety and trying to explain these things to people around me who give me a very strange look! I will stop now, but I would love to hear someone else's story...I'm sure I'm not alone!

Hi there, I went through early menopause in my late twenties as a result of a total hysterectomy (advanced endometreal cancer). Imagine my horror to start the process again in my late forties!!!! For the past few years I have experienced severe hot flushes, night sweats, fluid retention and feelings of mild depression. The hot flushes are SOOOOO severe that I feel physically sick and they restrict me socially as I am embarrassed to go out, especially in the evening. I have tried remnifemin and other natural products with very littke effect. Also patches, again no noticable change. I am unablt to have HRT because of history of cancer. HELP!!!! If anyone has some ideas or similar experience I would love to hear about your story.

Hi Helena. My situation is somewhat similar to yours. I have been having severe hot flushes for 4 years now. There is nothing 'intermittant' about it either. They have been unrelenting daily. I too feel nauseous with them and have at times thought about taking my life because of the total discomfort.. To many, that may sound extreme but I dont want to live like this at times. Now, I hate the summer months. I have tried herbal remedies etc ..to no avail. HRT worked for 9 months only.. If that is all thats on offer with the associated risks, then its high time to put more money and time into research. Menopause is a terrible time for women and yet they are so able at putting new drugs out there that improve ones sex life. Sadly, thats where the money is.

Hi rhcp. I can assure you it is not in your head and for those who are unsupportive, its just a lack of understanding. No one can know what its like unless they have experienced it and to be honest,i wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy. You are definitely not alone with your symptoms. It seems that those who take HRT never complain but I see that as only a short term fix as doctors are not happy to give it for more than 5 years, yet the menopause goes on for much longer with many women. 30% of women will continue to have flushes for the rest of their lives and what a dastardly thought that is with the few options available to help. I get sick and tired of hearing its a natural process. It may well be but its the most unnatural process my body been through. One should most definitely not have to suffer, but suffering is exactly what it is. I have found an antidepressant to keep me from insanity and very much on the level. The body likes to be in a state of homeostasis (balance) and in my book, that is unachievable with meno when your hormones are depleting. They really dont know enough about it. They can give you a list of 35 symptoms but they cant off any help. Unless ofcourse you want to live with the possibility of blood clotting and breast cancer on HRT. Not good enough medical profession !!!!

Have you looked into Bio-identical HRT? I am very comfortable on it and there are doctors around who will support you to take it. There is a compounding pharmacy in Auckland that can supply the creams and also recommend doctors to help you.
